Sigma Supernova is an renegade Star Maiden and the second-in-command of the covert team lead by Omega Vortex, who like her comrades sent to Earth by their alien tyrant commander to help retrieve and capture the escaped dark entity which was accidentally released by Earth teenager Jasmine Webb (who later assumed the responsibility of resealing the entity and given the heroine identity of Aurora Star). A former peacekeeper who turns to crime leaving a trail of destruction in the galaxy, Sigma was recruited by Omega herself to help her terrorize the innocent who oppose the tyrant's iron grip of terror. Sigma is one of the most dangerous and powerful adversaries Aurora and her Star Maiden team have ever faced. She dons the disguise of Shana Melmenz, a high school student and lead guitarist for Josie Meyer's (Omega's Earth identity) garage band.

Sigma is loyal and obedient to her commander Omega. She also takes pleasure and amusement in displaying terror and destruction. She is notorious of her twisted sense of humor while tormenting her enemies and rivals. When she is nearly defeated of her adversary however, she soon her darker side as she begins to blow out into uncontrollable rage, turning the tide in battle in a chain of violence and fury. As Shana, she makes good of her secret identity by being a constant teaser and practical joker and having a reputation of being her school's resident troublemaker.

Sigma possesses the exact same superhuman abilities as all the other Star Maidens: super speed and strength, flight, a "smart" shield protecting her from all types of projectile weapons and explosives, spinning transformation and her special magical attacks. Her main magical attacks are dust and mist-based attacks including her Sand Blast attack which she emits devastating sand gusts from her hands, her Sand Storm attack, which she spins around in super-speed, transforming into a powerful sandstorm capable of unleashing massive destruction, and her "bubble boom" attack (unleashing an array of explosive bubbles that detonate on contact). Her other special powers include teleportation and the ability to transform into dust-based particles for tactical purposes. Her "counter-maiden" weapon ("counter-maiden" is a term used for facing other Star Maidens in combat) is a generated katana blade she uses in close-quarters combat. She is an expert in hand-to-hand combat and has expensive training in infiltration and undercover operations.
