Honami Miyamae is a Japanese exchange student who moved to America with her adoptive family before she entered high school, where she befriends an orphan named Anastasia "Annie" Stroman during her first year there; she also is Annie's guardian and caretaker. She helps Annie with her running the local gun shop in Raleigh, North Carolina where they test and sell weapons to various secret agents and law enforcement officers. One day when Honami and Annie were on their way home from work, the two encountered an alien familiar named Loraci, who takes the form of a talking cat. Loraci claimed that he found the girls as Earth's guardians against the coming invading horde of magical alien demons hell bent to enslave humanity. Soon after, a demon ambushed the girls and despite a valiant standoff by Honami's martial arts skills, the girls were overpowered by the demon. Loraci came to their rescue and given them magic talismans and instructed them to use them to transform into magical girls. At first Annie was perplexed, but Honami was reluctant and transformed first before Annie and forced to transform as well. They soon defeated the demon and Honami was the first to thank Loraci for saving their lives and given them new responsibilities as Earth's defenders, much to the chagrin to Annie at first. Honami now joins Annie (now known as Fiore Calibro) as the enchanted crime fighter, Fiore Spada (Italian for "flower blade") in their duty to protect their city from demonic forces and criminals alike, while keeping the daily routines at running the gun shop.

Honami is a quiet person, though she is often social when interacting with costumers and occasionally willing to help people. But beneath her calm exterior, spawns a fiery and wild slide that looks for the rush of adrenaline, especially in battle. As her magical girl alter ego, Honami sets her poker face and glaze on her adversaries with a cold stare before defeating them with the grace and skill of a determined warrior. Given the new responsibility as a costumed hero, Honami is the more excited of the two of having a chance to protect people and fight evil, an exact opposite of Annie’s angst-like view of being a magical girl. She has a soft spot for Annie, making her more like a sister figure than just someone that Annie would just have a nice chat over. Honami could sometimes get annoyed by Annie's tomboyish attitude and occasional rude behavior which leads Honami to extract physical (comedic purposes) abuse to force Annie to think things straight. In spite of their constant differences, Honami would lay her life on the line to help and protect Annie from danger. Her favorite hobbies are reading books and sipping tea on a quiet, secluded area (like a park or near a waterfall). Her favorite food is small wieners.

Honami is an accomplished fencer/swordswoman and a seasoned expert with samurai-style weapons, including the katana blade and bo staff. She is a black belt in judo and jujitsu. As Fiore Spada, she has the same abilities as Fiore Calibro: flight, superhuman reflexes and agility, and a wide array of magical spells and powers. Like Calibro, she has the ability to generate a wide variety of firearms and heavy weaponry out of thin air. Unlike Calibro, who solely relies on guns for offensive purposes, Spada can also generate swords and melee weapons for close quarters combat: her preferred weapons are a katana blade and a pair of sai knives. She is extensively trained in electronics, espionage and field medicine. She is schooled in mathematics and ancient Oriental cultures and mythology.
